| Abstract | The applied practice of supply management with the satisfaction of water needs through the search of new water resources together with the fact that water resources are nevertheless limited, had led to environmental and economic deadlocks as well as depletion of water resources in the greater Thessaly area. The possibilities of water conservation in the agricultural sector, which is the main water consumer in Greece and in the area of Thessaly as well, and the use of appropriate economic tools and social interventions can become the key aspects for the solution of the Thessaly water problem. This paper evaluates the current situation and proposes a set of measures to be taken in order to reorient water management into more sustainable directions. |
