Abstract Koutsospyros A, Yin SM, Christodoulatos C, Becker K:
"Destruction of environmental air contaminants using non-thermal, ambient-pressure, capillary plasmas",
In PROTECTION2004: (Jun 2004)

Keywords
Abstract   We report the results of the use of non-thermal diffuse plasmas for the destruction of environmental trace contaminants such as volatile aliphatic and aromatic hydrocarbons at concentrations of up to several hundred parts per million (ppm) in respirable atmospheres. The destruction efficiency was studied as a function of the species residence time, the specific energy input, and the influent contaminant concentration. By-product formation during the plasma chemical destruction was assessed by monitoring the concentration of gaseous nitrogen and carbon oxides. Carbon mass balances were used to assess the possibility of complete contaminant destruction leading to mineralization.
