Abstract Fougias EG:
"Use of mathematical models for the prediction of filamentous growth problems in activated sludge plants",
Tech. Chron. Science Journal, TCG, I 22 (3) : 45-56 (Dec 2002)

Keywords
Abstract   In recent years, the use of mathematical models for the design of activated sludge plants has developed to such an extent as to incorporate the examination of their operational problems. In the present study, a biokinetic model was applied for the simulation of filamentous growth problems in the wastewater treatment plant of Larisa. On the basis of the simulation results, the ability of this model to verify and predict filamentous growth problems is evaluated, and the potential use of mathematical models as prognostic tools for operational control is considered. The objective for wastewater treatment plant operators to be able to anticipate and tackle filamentous growth problems in advance rather than try to control them when they happen.
