| Abstract | The aim of this study was to evaluate the frequency and distribution of the gingival recessions in an adult population random sample aged from 18 to 68 years. Factors related to sex, tooth group (anterior-posterior), teeth surface location (buccal-lingual/palatal), periodontal condition, educational and social-economic level, as well as the hardness of toothbrush, were studied. The material of the study included 319 people (139 male and 180 female). The results, processed by the x2 method, showed that: The frequency of the gingival recessions was overall 31.03%, there was no statistically significant difference between the two sexes. The gingival recession frequency was greater for the first molars (70.4%), the central incisors (21.35%) and the premolars (8.24%), as well as for the buccal surfaces (55.54%) than for lingual/palatal (44.56%) of the sample. The hard toothbrush users had greater recession than those who used toothbrushes of different hardness and the difference was statistically significant (p<0.05). The social-economic level of the sample was associated to the gingival recession frequency and the difference was statistically significant (p<0.001). |
