Abstract Yannopoulos SJ, Eleftheriadou E:
"The implementation of the European floods directive in transboundary catchments: the case of Greece ",
In PROTECTION2010: (Jul 2010)

Keywords
Abstract   In the last years Europe has experienced floods causing extensive damages and thus urging the European Union to take measures against such catastrophic phenomena. In many cases the flood waves expand beyond the territory of one country affecting many countries in transboundary catchments. In 2007 the European Union put into force the Floods Directive (FD) 2007/60/EC. The purpose of this paper is to assess the compliance of the FD with the requirements for the management of transboundary floods. The Greek case of river Evros is examined with regard to the common implementation of WFD and FD in order to mitigate flooding and motivate the riparian countries to cooperate.
