Abstract   The Development of technical solutions and treatment strategies for industrial waste is currently considered in Syria as relevant challenges. The waste disposal situation and weaknesses of waste management system in the industrial city-Alsheikh Najjar of Aleppo were investigated. It was found out that organizational, technical and financial measures should be taken in order to improve the actual situation of waste management system. Different procedures such as thermal and biological treatment were applied on textile wastes and organic matter generated from food industries in order to recover material and energy. The results of experiments have shown that low heavy metals concentration and high compost quality can be achieved through the use of certain organic matter of food industry in basic raw material. Moreover, specific biogas yield from crop residue average 355 l/ODM and methane concentration is 53, 52 %. In addition, investigations have shown that combustion behaviour of textile waste mixture and waste wood is very different. The reaction front velocity of textile wastes (RFV = 263. 2 mm min-1) was at least eleven times as higher than reaction front velocity of wood waste (RFV = 22. 9 mm min-1) under the same combustion conditions. This data can be used to adjust the operational parameters and to ensure stable plant operation.
